Rapid Fire Reviews: Specter Of The Pop Rock Bands

Image
On todays edition of rapid fire reviews we are giving in to our simple side and indulging on some plain old pop rock. Bands that won't test you with complicated things, but try to lull you in with measured pleasures. Does it work? Rarely. But they continue trying. Music Of The Spheres   - Coldplay "Coldplay averages out to be a pretty good band". That was always my line. I'm an adamant defender of the bands first three records and I really enjoyed their last album Everyday Life  in 2019. So yeah when you average everything out, the good outweighs the bad. They are stretching that formula to its absolute limit here. Believe it or not this isn't the worst album Coldplay has ever released which I promise you is not a compliment directed at Spheres . But since then ...

1. Frank Ocean - In My Room For the second time in three weeks Frank Ocean takes the number one spot on the charts with pure name recognition alone, and for the second time in two weeks he blocks a Coldplay tune at #2. Frank seems to be gearing up for a proper album release which is exciting for everyone even if the singles haven't received universal acclaim. 2. Coldplay - Everyday Life Coldplay is back with a third single in three weeks and this one came paired with a debut performance of the song on Saturday Night Live, proving that despite the years since Coldplay's last record they are still commercially dominant. 3. Poppy - BLOODMONEY Poppy has been nearly flawless in 2019 with not only my runaway EP of the year but also a handful of fantastic singles that are working us towards her third record in four years in early 2020. 4. Mura Masa/Slowthai - Deal Wiv It Given that the last time Mura Masa and Slowthai paired up they dropped the absolute banger that is Doorma...
