Smokepurpp is a Florida based rapper who emerged alongside the ever growing wave of SoundCloud rap over the latter half of the last decade. His frequent collaborations with artists like Denzel Curry and Lil Pump, who he fronts the group Gucci Gang alongside, as well as producers like Murda Beatz and Ronny J has given him a contemporary and influential sound. Despite consistent public interest in his music he has largely avoided critical acclaim with simple formulas and poor lyricism.  Review By Lavender: I'd be lying if I said I hadn't enjoyed plenty of singles from Smokepurpp over the last few years. Despite the fact that he tends to attract a little bit more genuine attention for his talent than most of his trap contemporaries both records in the Deadstar  series as well as his Murda Beatz collaboration have suffered from similar shortcomings. Ugly God is a Houston based trap rapper who blew up in 2017 with his hilarious demenor and unique personality on viral tracks like Water  and Fuck Ugly God . After his first mixtape The Booty Tape  was met with critical shrugs he took some time off and even contemplated retiring before dropping two singles earlier this year which serve as bonus tracks for this very record, then dropping the his debut album full of original material. Review By Lavender: Ugly God is somebody I've always placed under the category of "Meme Rapper" so it was easy for me to sing along to great tracks like Water  and Fuck Ugly God  but as he grows it seems he has more and more of a desire to be taken more seriously and on The Booty Tape  I wasn't surprised to hear him try to sound a little bit more conventional, and come up short. Given how long it has been since that record and how little we've heard from him, by trap rapper standards at least I didn't have much anticipation ...

After a less favorable collaboration with Murda Beatz on Bless Yo Trap  Smokepurpp is prepping to release his proper debut album and dropped two singles along with this EP to help tide fans over until the full album drops. Review By Lavender: Smokepurpp has spent the last two years coming close to sounding special. I've really enjoyed some of his singles and he's gotten really creative on some deep cuts that helped separate him from the field. The problem is that every project Purpp has dropped so far has drowned these great creative tracks with painfully generic and indistinguishable trap tunes. Lil Pump is a Florida rapper who came up on the SoundCloud wave with a series of viral low-fi bangers like Gucci Gang  and D Rose . He dropped a self-titled mixtape in 2017 that scratched a unique itch for senseless and hard hitting trap bangers with stunning consistency. Despite being one dimensional the tape impressed with sharp execution of a specific formula. Since then Pump has skyrocketed in popularity being named to XXL's Freshman list last year as well as dropping numerous singles. Many of those tracks land on this album and the very hit or miss track record he had over last year and early 2019 doesn't inspire much confidence for a project noticeably longer than his first.  Review By Lavender: I like many people wrote Pump off at first as a guy who wrote a decently catchy song that blew up by chance, and it turns out that I like many people, was completely wrong.
