Dogsbody  - Model/Actriz Model/Actriz is a Brooklyn four-piece experimental rock act that I first heard about last year when they dropped what would ultimately become the lead single to this record. While I kept my eye on the band and wasn't surprised by the positive buzz the record was generating, it still took me too long to get around to listening and reviewing it. While I may not be as glowingly positive towards the record as others, it's a great record that could be used as a springboard into something an all-time great follow-up. The record kicks off with Donkey Show  a ripping introduction that shifts from distant shrill noise into churning riffs and lethal intensity about a minute in. It's a great way to start the album off alongside the lead single Mosquito  which has grown on me a lot with it's bitter repetition on the hook sounding better and better each time. Yes this list is late, it was a busy weekend, let me live. Enjoy <3 5.  Sixers - The Hold Steady Am I gonna like this new Hold Steady album? For the second single in a row I feel like I should be docking points because it sounds so much like so many of their other songs but when push comes to shove for some reason the songwritery details Craig Finn weaves into everything just works on me. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the bar rocky piano finale to the song which feels even a bit too corny for The Hold Steady. Listen 4.  The Court  - Peter Gabriel I like parts of this song a LOT, the stark hook with its distant punches of echoing percussion is tailor-made for me to appreciate. While some of the song's intimate whispers can come off goofier than I think is intended I'm surprised just how much of this song stuck in my head after only a few times hearing it. Algiers is a Georgia based experimental rock band who emerged earlier this decade with a unique and rootsy take on Post-Punk. There Is No Year  is their third record and looks to follow in the footsteps of their politically charged and instrumentally exciting first two records. Review By Lavender: I can't say I've been head over heels for Algiers so far. They are from my adopted hometown of Atlanta and play an explosive brad of post-punk that I enjoy. Their records are both solid and I like plenty of the bands tracks but as a whole I thought the records were good, and just that. After some inconsistent singles leading up to the album I had a feeling we were heading towards the same kind of release, but There Is No Year  may be the weakest of Algiers three good records.
