Fear Of The Dawn - Jack White: Review

Image
Jack White is one of the most admired and acclaimed voices in all of music. Over his 20 year career he's been involved in projects like The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. He also has a catalog of solo work and a robust discography behind the scenes as a producer, curator and as the founder of Third Man Records. Fear Of The Dawn  is his 4th solo album and follows his most experimental project yet, Boarding House Reach  in 2018. Review By Lav If you've known me for any amount of time there's a good chance you know how much I adore Jack White. He's one of the premiere guitar innovators ever really, and his musical footprint is visible in all kinds of different places throughout the industry. This means that he garners attention and varying level of appreciation from different fanbases in the music world. While his mainstream fans weren't crazy about his last record where he turned to much more experimental sonic elements, it attracted a whole new f...

Best New Songs Of The Week: March 6th, 2022

With the elation of last nights UNC basketball win over Duke in their own stadium during Coach K's last ever regular season game I am feeling excited and generous. To that end I still don't see this release week as being one of the better ones of the year so far and more debate than I'd like to admit came purely in trying to find tracks that I was even comfortable enough putting on the list. Enjoy <3 5.  Matilda  - PUP If you're impressed by PUP's consistently ability to blend the raw sound of punk with the genuine emotional expression of emo then this song will be right up your alley. It doesn't have the most impressive or memorable riffs and refrains but the real highlights is how swiftly and effectively it bounces between emotional tones throughout. Listen 4.  Angelica  - Wet Leg On the back of an impressive run of post-punky singles from one of the most acclaimed young bands out there, they stripped it back to basics for this track fusing a slinky pop sen...

Just Until.... EP - Cordae: Review

Image
Cordae is a Maryland based rapper who has emerged in the last few years as one of the most lyrically gifted young MCs in hip hop. He was originally one third of the YBN trio but since scoring a XXL freshman slot and releasing a highly acclaimed debut album he has dropped the YBN from his name and started to release solo material. Just Until  is a 4 track EP meant to tide fans over until the release of Cordae's second album later this year. Review By Lav: I really enjoyed Cordae's debut album in 2019 and he's been on my singles of the year list for three years straight with his J Cole response track, Bad Idea  and last years The Parables . He has displayed a strong talent for cohesive tracks with excellent narrative focus and witty lyricism but is no slouch when it comes to making hard-hitting and fun tracks as well. This versatility and high level of execution has made him one of the most exciting artists out right now in any genre and Just Until  builds even further upon...

uknowhatimsayin¿ - Danny Brown: Review

Image
Danny Brown is a Detroit rapper who made a name for himself in the world of experimental hip hop in 2011 with his breakout mixtape XXX . After releasing the conceptual Old  in 2013 he received some criticism for dialing back on what made his style so unique but found more critical success despite this. After taking an extended break Danny Brown returned in 2016 with one of the most critically acclaimed records of the year, and one of the most acclaimed experimental hip hop records of the entire decade with his magnum opus  Atrocity Exhibition . The record turned Danny into an overnight superstar in experimental hip hop and the anticipation for this new record was very high. Review By Lavender: Danny Brown's Atrocity   Exhibition  is one of the best albums I've heard all decade and his 2011 record XXX  isn't that far behind it. Danny Brown has shown off consistent ability to deliver on both genre bending and boundary pushing instrumentals and pairing ...
