Late drop again because I'm just getting back from vacation but hey at least it's coming out today.  5.  Von Dutch  - Charli XCX Aspiring hyperpop DJs got the best news of the year when Charli XCX announced that her upcoming project would be a club record. We got the first taste of that with von dutch  and, yep, it's certainly a club record. Okay there are plenty of things I like about the song like the revving squeaky synths and Charli's always unflinching confidence. But the beat and refrains just start to feel like nothing aa the song goes on. Marry Christmas Babes, When I started this series like a million years ago I did it because I thought producers were underrated and I wanted to highlight some behind the scenes contributors who were doing an excellent job. Nowadays there is more attention than ever being paid to producers both in the mainstream and experimental realms so maybe in a sense this list is outdated, but whateves. Sleater-Kinney are a female fronted punk rock outfit from Washington with origins in the riot grrrl movement of the 1990's. The bands original run of records leading up to the mid 2000's is a universally acclaimed set of punk and indie rock releases and that acclaim continued when the band reformed in 2015 with their No Cities To Love  comeback album. Gorillaz are a virtual band that at this point really need no introduction. The project is spearheaded musically by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and visually by artist Jamie Hewlett and have been releasing music for almost 2 decades including some of the most essential fusions of indie, electronica and hip hop of the past 20 years. After releasing one of their least conceptual and most straight forward projects with 2018's The Now Now  the band is returning with a collaboration driven project that featured many singles leading up to its release. We're back. And what a shitty week to be back. Some real digging had to be done to assemble 10 tracks I can genuinely reccomend to you this week, but I've done it nonetheless so let's get started. 10. "The City" YG Hootie (Ft. Kendrick Lamar) YG Hootie shows his lack of experience as an MC all over this track. Barely stumbling through offbeat meaningless bars the song actually turns out pretty good for what it is. Kendrick is quality as always but nothing special for his status. The chorus really brings it home, it's simple and catchy, which is really what makes this one worth returning to. YG Hootie by himself doesn't seem like an appealing proospect and his next track may not even make enough noise to come across my glance, but this song is just good enough. 9.
