Review by Lavender: Clipping  is a rap trio that in certain circles needs absolutely no introduction. One of those circles being my long-time readers as I've always been a huge fan of the band. I dished out a lot of retrospective acclaim to their progressive rap masterpiece from 2014 and their highly conceptual follow-up a few years later. I was also a big fan of their multi-album indulgence into horror-core which resulted in the excellent 2020 album Visions Of Bodies Being Burned , their best record yet and one I called my album of the year for 2020. But it's been a long 5 years since then and what the group returned with is a shift in style to the equally conceptual world of cyberpunk. Clipping is the experimental rap group consisting of producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes alongside rapper Daveed Diggs. The group quickly established themselves as some of the genres most interesting and unique projects with a willingness to indulge in wild experiments and narrative concepts. Their 4th record last year There Existed An Addiction To Blood  was an experiment in horror-rap that came from the bands immense appreciation for horror movies. The appreciation turned out to be deep enough that they produced a whole 2nd albums worth of material under a similar concept, which makes up most of the tracks here on Visions Of Bodies Being Burned .  Review By Lavender: Clipping has been one of the best acts around in any genre for the past decade. Since I started writing about music in 2016 they may be the best act period given how they've monopolized spots on my year end lists as one of only 2 (or kind of 3) artists to ever appear on both the Singles and Songs list...

Clipping is a Los Angeles based hip hop trio consisting of experimental noise and jump producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes, as well as multi-talented MC Daveed Diggs. The group independently released a debut mixtape Midcity  back in 2013 and after garnering some attention from it they were signed to sub pop records and released the massively critically acclaimed CLPPNG . Two years later the band got even more experimental on the highly conceptual Splendor & Misery  and now three years later after a number of remixes, singles and EPs helped manage the gap between releases, the trio is back with a new horror and Halloween themed record released off the back of a few critically acclaimed singles.
