Neck Deep - Neck Deep: Review

Image
Review by Lav: Okay so I did not expect to be reviewing this album right now. I've been covering Neck Deep ever since their 2015 album Life's Not Out To Get You  really impressed me in my tween years before I even started this blog. I reviewed their two follow-up albums since then and I wasn't particularly impressed by either. After a four-year gap in new material I can't exactly say this self-titled fifth album was high on my list of priorities. But after seeing some positive buzz for the project spread online I decided to give it a shot and ultimately had to cover it. On their self-titled record Neck Deep get right back to basics and deliver their best album since the one that first made me a fan almost 10 years ago. Though this record is better than I expected, it's still firmly entrenched in the predictable sounds of pop-punk and that isn't always a perfect formula. For example, I'm not crazy about the album's lead single and bit hit Heartbreak Of Th...

Best New Tracks Of The Week: 9/24/2023-10/1/23

Because I moved last week I just combined the two weeks into one, enjoy <3 10.  It Won't Be Like This Forever  - Neck Deep Don't make fun of me. I've been waiting for neck Deep to return to their catchy meets angsty brand of pop-punk bliss since 2015 and this is among the better tracks they've released in the past 8 years. In no way is this rewriting the book on any element of their sound or style but come on, it's catchy and explosive and fun. Listen 9.  Murder At The 18th St. Garage - The Mountain Goats You have to respect the hustle of The Mountain Goats. Dropping a new album pretty much every year the band doesn't have the most stylistic versatility to them but they play to their strengths occasionally. On this track they absolutely nail their dorky and occasionally over-written style with a simple energetic instrumental and some lyrics fans will love pouring over.  Listen 8.  SHAQ & KOBE  - Meek Mill & Rick Ross Am I crazy or is Meek soundin...

All Distortions Are Intentional - Neck Deep: Review

Neck Deep is a Welsh pop punk band who emerged in the second half of the 2010's as a new voice in the genre pulling heavily from bands like Fall Out Boy and Blink 182. Their true to form pop punk sound has found success with both old and new fans of the genre.  Review By Lavender: Normally this band wouldn't really be my thing and if not for a killer recommendation from a good friend I may not even have known about the group at all. That recommendation was to listen to the bands 2015 sophomore record Life's Not Out To Get You  which featured some of the most instantaneous songwriting and fiery emotionally rich performances I had ever heard on a pop punk album. Unfortunately that great album stands alone in their discography as despite having 2 albums and more worth of other material not much has resonated with me. After the records 2nd single really resonated with me I got my hopes up that this record may be a return to the bands high, but the result wasn't it.  First l...
