Super Joao EP - Dirty Projectors: Review

Image
Dirty Projectors is the long running indie project of David Longstreth. Over the years numerous musicians and vocalists have filled in roles for the band and Super Joao  is the third of 5 EP's the band plans to release this year each focusing on a different vocalist.  Review By Lavender: I have loved Dirty Projectors for as long as I can remember which was pretty clearly evidenced by my very positive reviews of their two EPs earlier this year. I was particularly excited for this release because long time frontman David Longstreth is the vocalist for these tracks. I have always enjoyed his vocals quite a bit and more than ever before on the past two full length Dirty Projectors records. But now that the EP is out it is by far the weakest of the trio from a songwriting and instrumental perspective.  The lead single Holy Mackerel forecasted this as a sift and off kilter indie tune that I didn't love at first and has slightly grown on me. I think David's singing is as captiva

Windows Open EP; Dirty Projectors: Review

Dirty Projectors are a long running indie project based in Brooklyn that has been subject to more line-up changes than can be reasonably kept up with. The one constant through the entire discography of the band is singer, writer, multi-instrumentalist and producer David Longstreth. From the more experimental tracks David made in the early days, to the bands peak on indie relevancy on records like Bitte Orca  and Swing Lo Magellan . A lot of fans have been divided by the most recent two records but I have to say I enjoyed them both quite a bit. 2017's Dirty Projectors  saw David revising the bands l

Six albums that you should be excited for this week. Singles are coming from Lorde, The War On Drugs, Radiohead and Arcade Fire so don't let these projects slip past you. 1. Alt-J - Relaxer Alt-J have two good albums under their belt and after three different sounding singles there's no way to tell how this thing will sound. But there's one thing thats to be expected, it'll sound good. And it'll be the first album I'm playing at midnight this friday. 2. Roger Waters - Is This The Life We Really Want Waters Pink Floyd legacy or past solo work didn't get him to this position. I'm surprised anyone is talking about it excited for a Roger Waters album in 2017 but here we are. Singles "The Last Refugee", "Deja Vu" and "Smell The Roses" are where all the excitement comes from. They're a varied and interesting trilogy of political and passionate songs. If the rest of the album can maintain this quality then we're i
