2018: Song Of The Summer

As September approaches and anything resembling summer fades away it's time to once again publish one of the more controversy stirring pieces of popular music journalism to write about. The phrase "song of the summer" is inherently pop, it's about the track that was hot on every station and a must play at every pool party during the years warmest months. Its important for us to assess as we do every year the fact that a song of the summer doesn't have to be good, or unique, or critically acclaimed. Experimental music fans or indie die hards could tag plenty of songs from SOPHIE's Faceshopping, Death Grips' Black Paint or even Beach House's Drunk In LA as the songs that dominated their summer but that's not what this term means or what it represents. That's why everyone must reluctantly admit that the undisputed song of the summer of 2018 is Drake's In My Feelings.  A track that so many seem to find nauseating yet one that has dominated
