OMW2 REXDALE - Nav: (Guest Review)
Editors Note:
Hello angels, Lavender here. I'm about to tell you the full story of this Nav review. I've been hard at work on this review of the new Jane Remover album Revengeseekerz for Ringtone Magazine, something that took quite a bit of time and attention away from this blog, but was worth it because I'm REALLY happy with the final piece. In the meantime, I started to speak to some friends about contributing guest reviews for projects I didn't get the chance to cover while I was busy. Surprisingly, the first to come through was from a 100% unserious joke request for one of my girlfriends to review the new Nav record. Transparently, I find the record exhaustingly boring and hadn't considered covering it myself at all. To my surprise, she leaped at the opportunity to suffer through its 36-minute runtime and collect her thoughts into a review. It's my honor to present to you the debut album review from my girlfriend Megan, in its entirety, below.
Review by Megan:
Ok, so I can fully admit that I am not the biggest Nav fan out there. I always thought that whenever he is a feature on a song, he is always the weakest link, and best case scenario is unnoticeable. My girlfriend most likely told me to review this album as a joke, but I secretly did it just to give an actual Nav album an honest try. Unfortunately, it seems that after listening, I still do not quite understand what Nav's fans see in him.
I did hop onto the album with some hopes, as I did somewhat enjoy the first song "SINKING". I thought the instrumentals were interesting and fit with Nav's style of being somewhat distant and fading. The lyrics mostly talk about his struggles with addiction and his feelings of being trapped. I was genuinely interested in what Nav was going to bring to the table on possibly a darker album with greater themes of isolation. Unfortunately, after this, I am brought back to reality for the rest of the album with the same nasally drone that Nav is known for. I could barely pay attention to the rest of the project, with it all feeling like the same old Nav I know. I was just waiting for something to grab my attention, just anything to make me feel as if I am not wasting my time. Nav doesn’t do anything with the features he gets on this album, with it all just feeling like wasted potential.
I’m not going to relisten to this album as I’m sure Nav has not done so either. 3/10
