Best New Tracks Of The Week: 4/7/24

Another late-night best new tracks from your nocturnal angel girl. Enjoy <3

5. Silence - Cloud Nothings

Once again I think this single will fall short of blasting fans of early Cloud Nothings punky bombast away. But I think the band has settled into a punchy indie style that still carries more weight than most of their contemporaries. The combination of crashing drums and sticky refrains isn't rewriting anything but it's a formula I still find compelling.

4. B2b - Charli XCX

When Charli claimed that her new album was going to be for the clubs, she wasn't kidding. In the absolute most literal interpretation of that promise possible, she delivered two singles this week tributing the genre's classics and one of its most beloved styles of performance. For this song, she recruits Gesaffelstein a combination the feels almost too good to be true. His pulsating contributions make this the darkest and murkiest club vibe Charli has served up yet even in spite of her girlish vocals.

3. Comin' Around Again - Amber Mark

After dropping an incredibly impressive debut album in 2022, Amber Mark SHOULD be gearing up to be an R&B superstar soon. This song didn't quite floor me the way some of her best material has but it's a memorable enough lead single that shows off her talent as a vocalist and songwriter. I'm highly anticipating the moment where she returns to the kind of dreamy space that made for the best moments on her debut.

2. Dream State - Kamasi Washington (feat. Andre 3000)

Kamasi Washington's highly anticipated return is already confirmed to be a group project with impressive range and scope. This newest single features an appearance from the hottest flautist of 2023, Andre 3000. He provides an ambient introduction that wouldn't have felt out of place on New Blue Sun before Kamasi Washington takes over for a spacious and fittingly dreamy number.

1. 86Sentra - NxWorries

For the second week in a row an impressively short song has made its way onto the best new tracks of the week list. This time it's Anderson .Paak once again proving that he's got bars on top of bars. For basically 90 straight seconds over an infectious Knxwledge beat he impresses with both lyrics and flow in a dispay that absolutely reminded me of some of his best work. Paak is one of the best collaborators in all of music and this only further proves it.
