Best New Tracks Of The Week: 2/25/24

5. The Dream Of Delphi - Bat For Lashes
I was already a Bat For Lashes fan and even I wasn't prepared for this. Hearing her step further than ever before into this specious opulent dreamy landscape is very compelling and her vocals are ready to meet the moment. By the time reaches it's eerie shimmer of electronic instrumentation and the fluttering nature sounds on its way out it feels entirely beyond what I thought Bat For Lashes Was capable of.

4. All The Same - The Voidz
Never accuse The Voidz of being predictable. After releasing a hard-hitting, blistering hard rock jam last year of course the band would shift focus to an electronic-tinged autotune ballad for All The Same. In a new era that's bizarre even by their standards, this might be the strangest song yet. Even though it doesn't blast you away with any truly random sounds is does seem to jangle it's way through a number of seemingly easy listens that get fed through The Voidz filter and come out surreal but always inviting.

3. Saturn - SZA
SZA is such a cheat code it's ridiculous. Right out of the gate, I'll say this isn't one of her lyrical highlights. The sentiment of the song is absolutely there as a whole but some of the times she tries to pull it off can be a bit rocky. But her PERFORMANCE is just spectacular, once again making up for any possible complaint I might have. With a lush array of backing vocals and dreamy instrumentation, the song is a fully blissful and optimistic experience that I thoroughly enjoy.

2. The Invisible Man - Maruja
In a post announcing their new single, Maruja promised a story and BOY did they deliver. This is easily the most narrative-focused song they've delivered yet and it's so worth diving into that I don't even wanna spoil where it goes here but wow is it intense. As the band continues to hone their hard-hitting post-punk stylings they also dial into a new peak of storytelling in their lyricism on another great tune.

1. Gangsta - Free Nationals (feat. A$AP Rocky & Anderson .Paak)
Okay there was just no way this was ever not going to work. Two of the smoothest artists in all of rap teaming up with the silky instrumental flavors of Free Nationals for a surprisingly dramatic reflection on the uncontrollable factors that can lead someone down a path of violence. Everybody on the track plays their role perfectly for this absolute slam dunk of a single.
