Best New Songs Of The Week: November 13th, 2022

After easily the worst release weekend of the year so far thankfully this was a big one, both a deep collection of new songs and a handful of really high profile artists. Enjoy <3

5. The Ending - Brockhampton
Despite the drop in spot on the list, I think this is an improvement over the first "Brockhampton" single. I put the air quotes up because once again this is really just a short Kevin Abstract song and while it has all the personality you'd expect plus the addition of a grand gospel sampling instrumental, it is still pretty stripped down.

4. Insomnia - Parannoul
Parannoul's follow-up to last year's brilliant breakout album To See The Next Part Of The Dream has been something I've been thinking about for a while and finally we have a taste. While the song starts off slow with a much more whimsical and meditative sound the lo-fi sonic intensity you'd expect finds its way into the track and it does on and when paired with the soaring synths it makes for a sound that's both new but also kind of familiar for Parannoul fans.

3. A Sky Like I've Never Seen - Fleet Foxes
After not really loving Fleet Foxes in their early days they are on a two-album and-counting streak of absolute excellence and there are tastes of both Crack Up and Shore in this great new soundtrack song. I'll take new Fleet Foxes however I can get it and even if this isn't leading to any kind of broader creative project it has all the illustrious charm and rustic sensibility that you could want from one of their songs.

2. If Jesus Was A Rockstar - Kim Petras
After scoring her first #1 hit on the Hot 100 as a feature last month Kim's next move has just about everything you'd expect. She was finally able to drop Dr. Luke as a collaborator and in exchange picked up Max Martin for this unique pop anthem that shows off her exact brand charming hilarious songwriting and confident presence on the song.

1. Carbon Dioxide - Fever Ray
While the previous Fever Ray single was an exciting return for both the presence of the project and also the brother-sister duo pulled off when you add in the production side of things, this absolute banger is much more likely to channel the best memories you have of The Knife and Fever Ray in the 2000s. With the memorable hook, wild array of synths, and Karin's unmistakable vocals this is the best Fever Ray song I've heard in a while.
