Best New Tracks Of The Week: October 15th, 2022

On time even though I don't have wifi right now because I moved. The things I do for my little darlings.
Enjoy <3

5. Grapevine - Weyes Blood
Even with Weyes Blood being known for playing it lowkey the verses on this track are on the sparse side. And while the hook doesn't quite erupt like some of her best tracks it doesn't have to because the beauty comes from the subtlety. With Johnathan Rado once again on board for production every single chime, keys and swell of strings sounds immaculately aligned.

4. Stressed - Doechii
Top Dawg's new versatile wonder child is back with another impressive new single that shows off her ability to sing and rap across an effective array of styles. Beyond her impressive display the song also has a great instrumental that's creative and pretty uncompromising in its willingness to work in charming small details.

3. ours - R.A.P Ferreira
In the middle of this song Rory explicitly says not to call it "stream of consciousness" but it's hard to think of anything else that's more fitting. Of course, those thoughts have been collected into a series of tight rhymes which weave one clever double-entendre around another. It isn't even purely an exercise in lyricism either as the shrill keys and short drum loop on the song sound great as well.

2. Hide & Seek - Stormzy
This collaboration between Stormzy and an array of very impressive singers didn't really blow me away at first but I found myself liking it more and more every single time I listened. Not only are the reserved but still powerfully emotional performances impressive but Stormzy's storytelling about being available to someone when they need it is wonderful.

1. No Decent Shoes For Rain - Dry Cleaning
I've liked a handful of Dry Cleaning singles in the past, but this is their best song yet. It's the best combination yet of their hazy slurred guitar-driven post-punk with the methodical, monotone poetry of their frontwoman. Even at nearly 6 minutes it keeps the refreshing intensity alive sounding at the same time surprisingly poised yet with the imagination of an improvisation intact.
