Best New Songs Of The Week: October 2nd, 2022
Late, but not LATE. Enjoy <3
5. F.O.O.F - Frankie Cosmos
Frankie's nostalgically aloof brand of indie pop isn't likely to make a list like this often, but in a week with a few surprising let downs including the first sign of vocal fallibility in Benjamin Clementine's entire life, Frankie gets a shot here. This is a sweet and endearing little tune that wins you over more with its charm than the writing of its refrains.

4. Beep - M.I.A
M.I.A's run of recent singles has been a bit rough, to the point where I can legitimately worry if my praise of this song will age poorly when all is said and done. But in the present day I have to say I like it, it's the best song she's released in ages and it does the larger-than-life snark better than the previous singles could ever dream of.
3. Natural Information - Bill Callahan
Counting on Bill to deliver good music consistently is a winning bet and it's just paid off again. With a shorter and livelier single than his outing just a few weeks ago he delivers the exact same level of wonderfully rewarding songwriting as a result. The book is largely written stylistically for Bill's music already, but his continued ability to impress is, well, impressive.
2. Body Paint - Arctic Monkeys
I liked the first Arctic Monkeys single quite a bit, but it took me a while to come to that conclusion. Body Paint had me right away with Alex's now trademark swoon at its core and a bridge that conjures The Beatles more than anything else I've ever heard on an AM song. I was always going to be excited for their new record but now I'm getting the sense that I might actually really enjoy it.
1. New Body Rhumba - LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem are back and while the why shouldn't matter in this instance, if you insist it's with this song for an upcoming Noah Baumbach movie. It's playful and dancy in the ways that all of LCD's absolute best songs are and while everyone is welcome to their own moment of excitement at the return of the band, it doesn't take long for them to be properly back by all measures.
