Best New Songs Of The Week: July 24th, 2022

Two weeks of Best New Track being released early/on time, it must be a miracle.
Enjoy <3

5. A Foul Form - Thee Oh Sees
On this brief new Oh Sees track they really only need around a minute and a half to make this crushing distorted haze of a song which somehow also manages to have nearly chant-along refrains. It almost sounds like it's coming from another band with another sound entirely but if this is just a taste, it certainly feels like a worthwhile direction to explore.

4. TV - Billie Eilish
Billie dropped a pair of new acoustic cuts this week, the better of which is TV a gentle meditation on how a romantic relationship can pull you away from your friends. It's honest and raw both sonically and thematically and represents a the climb up a mountain for Billie acoustic songs from being the real duds of her debut album, to some of the highlights on her sophomore album and now some of her best work.

3. Orange County Punk Rock Legend - The Garden
Well this new Garden single is weird, initially off-putting but ultimately quite charming, which is basically their hallmark. They continue to show off an ability to weave catchy refrains around a whirlwind of genre blurring instrumentation and this short track is no different. If my only complaint about a song is wishing it went on longer that's not a bad place to start.

2. Clavicle - Daphni
While none of the Daphni singles had really knocked my socks off so far, this is definitely the best one yet. Even though I was kind of hoping Dan would take on the Eartheater song Below The Clavicle just for the challenge I'm still pretty happy with the results of this utterly infectious house number with an array of glittery and charming synth lines at its core.

1. Free Yourself- Jessie Ware
Jessie Ware starting a new era off with a mature but utterly infectious new dance pop number, does that sound familiar? Seriously though while Free may not be the best single I've ever heard from Jessie it does fit in amongst her best work and that's quite a compliment for an artist of her caliber. Wherever this era takes Jessie, it's gotten off to a pretty inspiring start.
