Best New Songs Of The Week: July 10th, 2022

One day late, sorry, busy weekend. Not wasting any more time.
Enjoy <3

5. Graveyard Love - The Mars Volta
While it's clear that we won't get the full picture of this new Mars Volta record until it can be digested in its entirety but these singles certainly seem to predict a change of pace. With clearer and hookier melodies, less overwhelming instrumentation and a short runtime it's a fine outing though one that certainly stands out for the band.

4. RUN - Killer Mike (Feat. Young Thug)
Killer Mike is back with his first solo single since Run The Jewels became america's sweethearts and it features a fellow Atlanta legend in the recently incarcerated Young Thug. For the most part the track is a parade of Mike's accomplishments as a veteran in the hip hop community who has been one of the definitive conscious voices in the genre for over 20 years. Despite its general lack of ambition that song is still an exciting anthem based on the charm and stature of its principal artists.

3. Pharmacist - Alvvays
Alvvays is finally back and they came to shoegaze. For just over two minutes the band chruns out some of their heaviest riffs blown out into one their most dense mix yet. It has a dissonance that is brand new for the band but a pop sheen that is very familiar and certainly works to get me excited for new material.

2. Part Of The Band - The 1975
If you've ever thought "I wish The 1975 would make a song that could fit into Bon Iver's last two albums" for some reason, well wish no longer because Part Of The Band is here. One of the most interesting pop rock bands out there continue to flirt with transcending the genre entirely on this folktronica tinged new track that certainly turned heads in the indie scene for its shift in sound. Like most of what the band has done in their career so far, I like it.

1. Survivor's Guilt - Joey Bada$$
Joey's emotional new song pays tribute to the late Capital STEEZ as well as one of Joey's cousins who was much less prominent in the public light so Joey takes it upon himself to honor him. It's an excellent, excellent song that both honestly pays tribute to fallen friends and looks forward to try and prevent similar tragedies in the future. I don't want to spoil its most beautiful secrets, just listen to it.
