Best New Tracks Of The Week: February 27th, 2022

Hello and welcome to the almost late for a second week in a row sort of weekly list we do on this little blog. I listened through a number of brand new songs this week and these are the best of them, simple as that.

5. Sex Magik - Bloc Party
After what I would describe as a bit of a misstep on their previous single Bloc Party are back with style on this new song. From a weird chanted hook that's bouncy in their distinct way to some of those wiry guitar riffs that give everything the band does such a youthful edge this has everything a good Bloc Party song should.

4. Zatoichi - Denzel Curry (Feat. Slowthai)
The second single from Curry's new album sports an attention grabbing title and feature, though isn't quite that bold. The Slowthai hook is unrelenting and the beat does occasionally make use of some punchier and more distorted beats but generally this is a far tamer outing than the duos previous. Regardless it's a solid and infectious single.

3. NO APOLOGY! - Kilo Kish
While this may not be quite the futuristic synth pop banger of her last two excellent singles I think I'm comfortable declaring Kilo's hot streak as still alive. The song features some punchy club drums and an eerie nocturnal lead vocal performance. The whole thing is Kilo taking on The Weeknd's style and actually managing to do it justice in a meaningful way that has me excited even more for her new record.

2. King - Florence + The Machine
Florence + The Machine's long awaited comeback is being helmed by Jack Antonoff, hooray. Seriously though for what the song does deliver in Jack burnout it thankfully more than makes up for with an anthemic lead vocal performance and wonderful compositional development. By the finale the way the soaring bridge comes together with the string arrangement is just beautiful.

1. Chicken Teriyaki - Rosalia
Doubt her if you want, but every single new song from this era of Rosalia's career has delivered heat. This short banger with a bilingual hook features a rumbling trap flavored beat and a stark punchy beat but as usual it's Rosalia's commanding voice and confident delivery that steal the show. Not to mention a hook that is guaranteed to be stuck in your head all week.
