Best New Songs Of The Week: October 17th, 2021

The best tracks released this weekend below:

5. Crutch - Band Of Horses
Nobody ever accused Band Of Horses of being TOO original, and the chorus of "I've got a crutch on you" is a real eye roller. But with all that being said the band clearly still knows how to make a bouncy indie pop song with pinpoint precision. The sweet melodies and wandering guitar leads are impossibly pleasant and make up for the familiarity of the song.

4. Self Made - Erick The Architect
After releasing an underrated EP earlier this year, Flatbush Zombies' Erick The Architect is back and with a beat that fits in really well with the reserved jazz rap stylings that have taken over his native New York. Over a beat that sounds like something the Armand Hammer boys would rap over Erick flexes his credentials as a rapper and the authentic following he built with his come-up.

3. Against The Blade - The Horrors
The new look Horrors continue to sound like Marilyn Manson updated for the modern age with a biting eruption of industrial rock. The gritty and attitude soaked vocals just exude edgy spite on the hook and the grinding heavuly distorted instrumentation is a fantastic touch.

2. The Tower Of Montevideo - Damon Albarn
This is quite the interesting one from Damon that brings together drum machine with a rich array of Latin instrumentation and Latin jazz stylings. It's a reserved piece but the lush orchestral arrangement speaks for itself and the songs beauty and versatility only make it an even more exciting teaser for Albarn's upcoming new record.

1. Chaos Space Marine - Black Country, New Road
The lead single to British post-punk act BCNR sort of came out of nowhere but it's an extremely welcome surprise. Making use of similar theatrics that fans have come to expect highlighting violin and keyboard in the instrumental. It's a weird and slightly indulgent indie jam that erupts with youthful angst while maintaining the instrumental virtuosity the band has always been composed of.
