Best New Songs Of The Week: September 19th, 2021

The five best new tracks released this weekend below:

5. Valentine - Snail Mail
The lead single kicking off Snail Mail's new era is a bit of an instrumentally dry indie rock cut. It's mostly made up for with personality both vocally and lyrically spinning a worthwhile tale in Lindsey Jordan's recognizable style.

4. Earthlings - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
One of experimental rock and chamber music's all time great acts is releasing a B-Sides and rarities collection which is being teased by this previously unheard track from the Ghosteen era. It features a bright and intense organ arrangement and anguish vocals from Nick all of which set up for a satisfying full chorus finale in just under 3 minutes.

3. Tales From The Trash Stratum - Oneohtrix Point Never (Feat. Elizabeth Frazier)
On this track Oneohtrix Point Never further proves his experimental clout by recruiting Cocteau Twins vocalist Elizabeth Frazier for an off-kilter sound collage piece punctuated by her spacey vocals and an airy instrumentally rich atmosphere of crashing chimes and thick synths.

2. I Don't Live Here Anymore - The War On Drugs (Feat. Lucius)
The War On Drugs return with another teaser in the form of a synth heavy nostalgia indie rock anthem with backing vocals courtesy of indie pop band Lucius. The whole thing is sweet, catchy and reminiscent of the knack for songwriting and bright punchy instrumentation that you'd come to expect from the band.

1. Famous Last Words - James Blake
James Blake's newest single after delaying the release of his new album due to a vinyl production issue feels like a throwback to his Overgrown era with an atmospheric ballad that features the utterly beautiful vocals we've come to expect from him. The songs string interpolation on the back end makes for a masterfully orchestrated finale and an emotional high point.
