5. Blue Heaven - Public Service Broadcasting (Feat. Andreya Casablanca)
The longtime instrumental rock band are returning next month for their first new album in three years and this single further displays the change of sound they set up with the lead single earlier this year. Gone is the sample heavy mostly instrumental rock palette as this is the second single to features a guest vocalist who handles much of the track. The track has an almost dance pop like flare but with the crescendos the band have always been known for worked into the mix for a quite triumphant finale.
4. In Blur - Deafheaven
Deafheaven continue to embrace their shoegaze and dream pop side on a fittingly blurry third single just two weeks before their highly anticipated new album. While the change in vocal style has certainly been a controversial once amongst fans the heavy walls of sound and blistering instrumental high points haven't faded from the bands repertoire and make some memorable appearances on this track.
3. That Life - Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Ruban Nielson's psych rock outfit is fully back in action after a lead single that was met with some mixed responses from fans. That Life however is the bands style fully realized and as recognizable as ever. with a killer groove, simple but catchy hook and hazy psychedelic production this one is guaranteed to be a fan favorite.
2. Invading The World Of The Guilty As A Spirit Of Vengeance - The World Is A Beautiful Place & I'm No Longer Afraid To Die
The contemporary emo titans whose acronym is longer than most bands full names are back in action with a rocking lead single characterized by some of their best qualities. With emotional lyrics and an even more emotional vocal performance from all involved they are approaching a louder but very focused rendition of modern emo trends with an instrumental built around a driving electronic guitar riff and anthemic drums. The band clearly hasn't spent their time off resting on their achievements and came out firing on all cylinders with this lead single.
1. Take My Breath - The Weeknd
Somehow Abel has done it again. This time with the help of Max Martin The Weeknd continues to channel the aesthetics of the late 70's and 80's with an insanely infectious and versatile disco pop anthem. Both alike After Hours and yet distinctly different it feels like the perfect sonic progression for his sound and seeks to once again be one of the best singles of the year, a feat we have pretty much been able to expect from any Weeknd singles for an entire decade since House Of Balloons.
