Best New songs Of The Week: August 29th, 2021

Must hear new songs this weekend:

5. So Mean - Poppy

Poppy stays the course of her new era on this new single which features much more pop punk influences than the heavy metal she's dabbled in recently. The song effectively fuses the sugary pop of her back catalog with some tight and catchy pop punk riffs and a Avril Lavigne attitude.

4. Justice Go Genesis - Sleigh Bells

The minimalism of a new Sleigh Bells single is just as bewildering in 2021 as it was in 2010. This track delivers rapid fire percussion, distant blaring guitar riffs, rising synth arpeggios and loud incredibly infectious lead vocals. The combination is dizzying but in the exact way that they have always done so well.

3. Orange - Pinegrove

After debuting the track a few weeks ago with a live version Pinegrove's new song landed on streaming this week in its proper studio form. The indie rockers are dabbling in a very familiar sound packed with the jangly instrumentation and emotional vocals you'd expect, with pretty good results.

2. star-crossed - Kacey Musgraves

Spacey Kacey kicks her new era off with a fittingly spacious title track featuring light flourishes of acoustic guitar and a dramatic progression. The song feels more like an intro than a single but does an impressive job of building up excitement across just a few minutes.

1. Future Starts Now - Kim Petras

Kim Petras kicks off her new era with a bang in the form of a big, loud electro pop anthem. Returning to a more synthetic style than last years Malibu single she sticks the pop formula landing and indulges with a heavily house influenced instrumental outro that firmly lands the track between the words of pop and dance.
