Best New Songs Of The Weekend:

5. Fly Again - Turnstile
Turnstile continue to impress with what feels like their thousandth single this year. While they are taking away from much of the surprise on their upcoming album they have also managed to flex quite a bit of sonic versatility from their hardcore bassline with these singles and this one is no different.

4. Rumors - Lizzo (Feat. Cardi B)
Lizzo is back in action after having a major break-out in 2019 and is doing it with a charming and unabashed pop rap cut. She addresses many of her haters straight on with a raunchy lyrical outing and catchy hook. Cardi does tend to steal the show a bit with an excellent second verse but I think at this point you expect Cardi to attract quite a lot of attention when she's on your track.

3. Back To Oz - Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine
Sufjan and Angelo are back with another pair of tracks from their upcoming collaboration and they continue to throw it back to the instrumentally rich indie folk of Suf's early days with great results. Oz is a jangly, catchy and softly delivered folk cut which thrives in its reserved capacity and only furthers anticipation for an upcoming Sufjan project that may sound more alike his work in the 2000's than the 2010's.

2. Before You Gotta Go - Courtney Barnett
The 2nd single from Courtney's upcoming 3rd studio album is a woozy but loving ballad with sweet instrumentation and her trademark reserved and contemplative vocals. With gentle reverberating guitars she pens some charmingly direct poetry that evokes a much more practical kind of love than is so often sung about. It's a fun and infectious little cut that should excite fans for what's to come.

1. Knees - Injury Reserve
Injury Reserve are back after the tragic death of member Groggs last year. Their return is a fittingly experimental, woozy and difficult to define song that experiments well beyond the world of rap music. Parker Corey flexes his versatility as a producer and both Groggs and Ritchie show what makes them such unique and emotional rap voices. The track is quite a tour de force moment that surprises and impresses throughout.
