September 2019 Recap

September served as the follow-up to a pretty brilliant august, but despite having a few more duds on its calendar September did feature a number of great records, and my favorite album of the year so far.

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Lana Del Rey
Serving as the first 10/10 review of the year Norman Fucking Rockwell is yer another brilliant piece in one of the greatest pop discographies of all time, and it should be enjoyed by everyone from die hard Lana stans to those arrant listeners that have been avoiding her all these years.
Review

Fear Innoculum - Tool
While Tool may not have dropped a record that matches their legendary discography up to this point they did manage to release a pretty unique and captivating metal album that stands tall in 2019.
Review

Forever Turned Around - Whitney
Whitney follows up their indie darling debut with a second record full of charming and boyish indie tunes that sounds just as unique as ever in the indie landscape.
Review

Let Love - Common
Let Love sees Common sounding less contemporary than ever before and just a few years removed from a record where he had so much to say, this album sounds like a wandering mess.
Review

Wallop - !!!
!!! gets just as dancy and fun as ever in a few tracks from Wallop but the albums most identifiable quality is its inconsistency.
Review

Chasing Summer - SiR
Rather than looking for his own voice, on Chasing Summer SiR digs in his heels and makes weak copies of R&B artists new and old.
Review

K-12 - Melanie Martinez
On Melanie's long awaited second LP she gives her cult fans a lethal dosage of what makes her such a unique pop artist, and it pays off.
Review

Mirrorland - Earthgang
Mirrorland is a bloated southern rap record that has plenty of filler, mixed in with some of the best rap songs you'll hear in 2019.
Review

The Blue EP - Death Cab For Cutie
The Blue EP is a decent collection of tracks that really only needs to be heard by the most die hard Death Cab For Cutie fans.
Review

Hollywood's Bleeding - Post Malone
Post Malone once again releases a record that is far too long, with far too few highlights and mostly borrowed ideas.
Review

Lost Girls - Bat For Lashes
Lost Girls is yet another release in a long line of solid dream pop records that make up a consistently underrated discography.
Review

All My Heroes Are Cornballs - JPEGMAFIA
Peggy follows up Veteran with a structurally similar record that features some wild experimental moments, as well as some that maybe should have been left on the cutting room floor.
Review

Charli - Charli XCX
Charli drops her most complete project yet full of futuristic instrumentals, great performance and consistently well placed features.
Review

Love + Fear Acoustic EP - Marina
Marina tries to make improvements to some of the better tracks from her most recent record, but once again comes up a little bit short.
Review

The Practice Of Love - Jenny Hval
Jenny once again drops a fantastic record that pushes her sound ahead while maintaining a tight grip on what makes her music so captivating.
Review

Beneath The Eyrie - Pixies
The Pixies drop the best record of their comeback to date, which isn't saying much, but maybe they'll be better in the future.
Review

Birth Of Violence - Chelsea Wolfe
Chelsea follows up one of her most acclaimed releases to date with an experience that is equally unique but not quite as groundbreaking.
Review

Emmanuel EP - Ameer Vann
Ameer picks up where he left off with Brockhamtpon, with a mix of fiery new age hip hop bangers and underwhelming tracks with bad production and repetitive flows.
Review

XYZ - Iglooghost, Kai Whiston & Babii
Three of experimental electronicas most unique voices come together for a short but thrilling collection of tracks where they play to each others strengths and assemble sounds you certainly won't hear anywhere else this year,
Review

DSVII - M83
While the long wait for M83's next proper studio record reaches its third year they decided to drop a follow-up to one of their most forgettable records. DSVII is a decent ambient piece with some nice highlights but not a record that will stand out this year.
Review

Sunshine Kitty - Tove Lo
Sunshine Kitty has some of what has made Tove Lo an artist to pay attention to in the second half of this decade but it is her least cohesive and consistent project to date.
Review

Why Me? Why Not? - Liam Gallagher
This record contains one or two of the worst rock songs you will hear in 2019, which is unfortunate because the rest of it is consistently tightly written and well performed.
Review

Nine - Blink 182
Nine may finally be the lowest point for a band that has been pushing it for years. Both because the album is terrible and out of touch, and also because it is hard to imagine the band ever doing anything worse.
