Beyonce

is well, Beyonce. One of the biggest stars in the world and a pioneering force in pop music. After missing her original Coachella headlining set due to her pregnancy and being replaced by Lady Gaga she returned the next year and played one of the most electric and exciting headlining sets the festival has ever seen. Now just over a year later Homecoming is the recorded performance of that very show as well as an accompanying concert video released on Netflix.

This is gonna be a quick review as this is a brilliant live album, but one I wouldn't recommend listening to right away. Beyonce delivers one explosive performance after another as she takes a deep dive through the biggest hits and fan favorites across her entire career. The performance features guests appearances from Jay-Z, Solange, Destiny's Child and J Balvin and is a brilliant collection of Beyonce tunes that will go down as one of the great live albums of modern music. But the album itself has been overshadowed a touch by how fantastic this thing is to watch. Seriously if you haven't yet, go watch the live performance on Netflix because as brilliant as it is to listen to this thing, seeing the elaborate stage setups, incredibly costumes and choreography, and how confidently and convincingly Bey owns the stage. is in a class of its own. If The Band's The Last Waltz or Talking Head's Stop Making Sense are personal favorites of yours do not miss Homecoming despite it's genre Bey gives an incredible and elaborate performance that will no doubt warm the hearts of pretty much any long time music fans. 9/10

Review by Lav:  The moment Taylor Swift's new album The Tortured Poets Department hit, it was lauded by numerous major critical outlets who, let's face it, got a copy in advance and likely wanted to maintain their positive relationship with Swift and her team going forward. Ever since then though, it's been an absolute barrage. Some of the nicer publications have pointed out that the record is a little on the long side and that Jack Antonoff's contributions continue to spark absolutely no joy. More honest critics have torn the album virtually to shreds for its awful lyrics and deeply formulaic melodies. Destiny  - DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ This album man. DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ has never been a project to limit itself and in one of the most indulgent moves they've undertaken yet they dropped this 41-track, nearly 4 hour record. Normally I would take that as an over-indulgence and look the other way entirely like I did with Mac Demarco's 200-track nightmare earlier this year. The difference is unlike Mac, DJ Sabrina are used to long, winding projects and I've enjoyed their material a lot in recent years.  So when I try to justify skipping this album I can't help but think of moments I like so much in it. Fan-favorite singles like Doubts  and Something New  or personal highlights like the future funk-inspired anthem of self-empowerment Get Over It . Though the music on this album is not directly trance-inspired and generally takes a much less methodical and sunnier approach, it is still very easy to become entranced by it.
