Thursday Hype Thread: October 19th, 2017

With 2 albums and an EP that could all be fantastic, the ceiling for this week's releases is massively high.

3. We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags (Quiet Slang)
James Alex of modern punk band Beach Slang worked on this solo EP of reworked Beach Slang favorites like Future Mixtape For The Art Kids and Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas from their first two albums as a group and worked in a cover of Big Star's classic "Thirteen". The songs edge of punky thrashy energy are traded out for a more toned down "quiet" sound. It's just 4 tracks but it could be the first step to bigger things for James Alex, who doesn't need to prove his talent to anyone.

2. Glasshouse (Jessie Ware)
Jessie Ware is back and you should be excited. The singles have been wonderful so far and there's no reason to expect this to not have some quality standard throughout. This has the potential to be the best effort from Jessie yet and it will likely be a must listen by the end of the year.

1. Ken (Destroyer)
This is basically music equivalent of being grandfathered in. Jessie has had much better singles than Dan so far, but after back to back album like Kaputt and Poison Season why wouldn't you expect this new Destroyer album to be good as well. He's much more likely to build an entire albums worth of quality material and focusing on just the singles isn't doing the long prosperous Destroyer name any justice. All three of these projects could be fantastic but with Destroyer that's the level of quality you just have to expect at this point.
