Five Songs You Should Hear This Week: Wednesday, October 18th, 2017

What a shitty week for the credibility of whoever writes WALK THE MOON lyrics.
Boy am I happy to see a personal favorite come back in such great fashion this week, I can't wait for 2018 to be the ultimate neo goth comeback year. A girl can dream right.

5. High End - Chris Brown (Feat. Future & Young Thug)
I didn't start the week expecting to see Chris Brown, Future and Young Thug release a track together but now that it's out I'm not sure how I didn't see it coming. It's wavy distant trap vibes fit perfectly. Future does what he always does, Thugger brings a typical verse and Chris Brown handles the chorus. Sure there's not enough here to top the billboard charts but it's made to be background noise, and it does that so so well.

4. Heartstruck (Wild Hunger) - Hamilton Leithauser (Feat. Angel Olsen)
Apparently collaborations are Hamilton's new thing now. He doesn't do a ton to separate this single from the rest of his catalogue but when Angel Olsen comes in, believe it or not, she kills it. What's new?

3. Cover From The Sun - Destroyer
It's not often you see a chipper up beat Destroyer song but this brief tune is just that in the most fun and bouncy indie way possible. It won't be splattered across pretentious indie top ten lists, but it wasn't meant to be.

2. Sam - Jessie Ware
Jessie Ware is riding a string of pretty good singles that have me excited for her new album. What's really impressive here is she manages to be good for all different reasons than before. The slow burning passion in this song is infectious and it's incredibly well written. It's not exactly classic pop either she has switched it up for us with Sam, but regardless it certainly shows off her immense talent and continues a creative streak she's been succeeding on for a while now.

1. Little Dark Age - MGMT
It is with a very very excited inflection I can tell you, MGMT is back. They've got 3 albums under their belt, a solid effort, a classic and a masterpiece, so there's no way to gauge what might be next for the boys. But if it's anything like Little Dark Age, then I'm more than excited. This is GothTronica, and not like Crystal Castles was Electro Punk masquerading as emotional hardcore, this is black eyeliner, bad dance moves, sad poetry, dark room goth. MGMT shines brighter than they have since the Congratulations single first dropped 7 years ago, and they do it with such poise and style you can't help but marvel at how out of date they are, and how good they sound doing it. Hopefully far from a fluke, the #1 spot is somewhere you can probably expect to see MGMT again is they have a full album of songs like this in the waiting.
